La pratique de Josianne Poirier questionne la frontière entre l’artisanat et l’art. En ayant recours à des matériaux et techniques traditionnellement associés au bricolage et aux métiers d’art, elle pose les questions suivantes : à quel moment une création, au sens large, devient-elle une oeuvre d’art ? Cela est-il dû aux qualités intrinsèques de l’objet ? À celles de son créateur ?

Josianne Poirier vit et travaille à Montréal. En collaboration avec Caroline Blais, elle y a notamment mis sur pied Very Awesome, un projet d’exploration typographique sur le web (www.veryawesome.ca). Elle poursuit de plus une maîtrise en études urbaines où elle s’intéresse aux pratiques artistiques contemporaines en milieu urbain.

Josianne Poirier’s approach questions the frontier between handicrafts and art. By using materials and techniques traditionally associated to handicrafts, she asks the following questions: at what moment a creation, in the large sens of the word, does become a work of art ? Is this due to the intrinsic qualities of the object ? To those of its creator ?

Josianne Poirier lives and works in Montreal. She has, amongst other things, in collaboration with Caroline Blais, put on a typographical exploration project on the web (www.veryawesome.ca). She is currently working on a master’s degree in urban studies where she concentrates on contemporary artistic practices in an urban context.
